Black Bull Inn

Black Bull Inn

Malton Rd
Pickering
YO18 8EA
T: 01751 475258

Surrounded by popular North Yorkshire attractions such as Flamingo Land and Eden Camp, The Black Bull is ideally situated for families needing a pit stop. A bright, clean dining room is no smoking and overlooks a well presented outdoor play area, which might be difficult to keep your little monsters away from. Elsewhere a pool table and big screen cater for the adults and the benefits of a recent £100,000 refurb can be felt throughout. Framed prints, wooden panelling, brass plates and a cosy atmosphere in the main bar are all complimented by the down to earth welcome. Black Sheep is served amongst the ales and the menu is full of pub classics. Nothing is too pricey and you can choose between jacket potatoes, steaks, deep fried scampi and suchlike. A special children’s menu is also available. And should you and the family fancy a stay longer than a pit stop, the Black Bull has five rooms available.

The Last Drop Inn

The Last Drop Inn

27 Colliergate
York

The name Last Drop refers not only to the final dash of ale in your glass but also to the journey awaiting a condemned man at the end of the hangman's noose. Such a morbid fascination with the city's grisly history is typical of the roster of local pubs owned by York's only brewery - of which this is one. Equally as typical is their commitment to traditionally brewed beer and there'll always be a selection from their own range. Our particular favorites include the award winning Terrier and the dark promise of Ghost, additionally you'll find a regular rotation of guest ales. Regular live music nights plus a sunny beer garden mean you can enjoy drinking in the most relaxing environment possible; fruit machines, a jukebox and pool table are notable by their absence. Food is served 12 - 4pm daily and, whilst you're enjoying the convivial atmosphere and fine beer, you might like to raise a toast to those who booked themselves a date with the gallows.

For centuries, goods were transported in and out of York via the Ouse, and some of the vaults that used to house the city's wares now make up this subterranean pub tucked between the mayor's Mansion House and the Post Office. Don't expect scenic views; old cellars rarely overlook herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically, but you don't need windows to have character and there's an outside summer seating area so ascension to the light is possible. The arched brick rooms, decked out in pine, have a look of Liverpool's more famous Cavern to them, and massive wooden tables are ready to accommodate the Cellar's lively student crowd. One of the few pubs in the city to have been awarded the Cask Marque, which signifies excellence in cask ale, there's a good range of beers and wines - better than most - while the basic pub grub menu keeps a steady flow of customers through the day. Definitely recommended for those who like their pubs to be a bit different.
